Preparing
I leave in a few days for Rijeka, Croatia on Summer Project with Campus Crusade. I am so excited!!
We will be there for six weeks building relationships & sharing the gospel with students we meet at the University of Rijeka.
Croatia is located in southeastern Europe along the Adriatic sea. Slovenia borders it to the west and Bosnia to the east. These countries made up part of what was known as Yugoslavia until the early 1990s. Violence was rampant in these countries only a short time ago. It's hard for me to comprehend what it would be like to have lived there then...war for me is only what i've seen on tv.
About 4 months ago, I decided I was going to apply for a project this summer with Campus Crusade. I never really thought I would do one until recently. They always seemed out of reach...I never thought little old me could go so far away and do something like this! But isn't it so true that God uses those who are "average" to do his work. Summer projects are big tests of faith- you are forced to trust God to provide all the financial means for the trip and trust that God will bless and use your team there, in a distant country.
Why I decided on Croatia...I don't know. My mom asked me why I can't go someplace more common like Germany or France. I told her I want to go to Croatia and I trust God wants me to too. I knew one person already, Julie, who is going, so that alleviated the stress of not knowing anyone at all. There are 8 students total going-some from Washington, Idaho and Montana.
Support raising has been the hardest part of this whole process. I started in early March and just now am getting close to my goal. For about a month I didn't see hardly anything come in, but in the last couple weeks I have seen thousands. Wow!! God does provide. I am so grateful to those who've supported me, including the kind people I've never met who wanted to help the cause. I pray that God blesses you abundantly for your generosity!
Until we leave I am packing and working. So much to do! I better get back to work at the Chrony for now.
Until next time,
katie
ps i really do not know how much i will be able to write, but hopefully frequently. if you are the praying type, please pray for our trip.
You did awesome things that we did not expect- isaiah 64:3
